Bridges, towers & other stuff

One of my favorite photographic manmade subjects are bridges. I always seek unique angles and time of day to photograph. I even try to make the boring and munDane interesting.

Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge Hendrix, Oklahoma 2/22

Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge is an ancient rail bridge east of Denison, Texas. It now links Carpenter’s Bluff, Texas to Hendrix, Oklahoma. At one time it was the only rail artery between Dallas and Tulsa, it has long since been decommissioned and is now an historical sight. For a host of bike clubs in the area, it is a favored sight along their tour.

Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge

Hendrix, Oklahoma 2/21

A winter storm hit the the US Midwest and Southwest with a vengeance. Texas and Oklahoma experienced record setting cold temps for the month of February. Texas was without electricity for nearly a week as temperature plunged. Schools were closed and citizens buttoned up at home to wait out a storm the locals call Snomegaddon. While smart people stayed inside this photographer found it advantageous to drive around the region taking very unique pictures. I wasn’t the only one out; this guy went bicycling in the snow. Talk about dedication.

George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge

Louisville, Kentucky 3/2010

This bridge crosses the Ohio River into Indiana. This morning these rowers were the only traffic on a usually busy waterway.

Margaret Hunt Bridge

Dallas, Texas 4/2020

This is one of the coolest locations for night photos of Dallas. This is located just west of downtown, crossing the Trinity River.

San Luis Bridge

Galveston, Texas 7/2022

This bridge is located on the SW corner of Galveston Island and it goes across to Surfside Beach, Quintana, Freeport, and eventually Lake Jackson; home of the very first Buc-ee’s. Buc-ee’s has become a Texas favorite travel stop since its founding in 1982.

Southfork, Colorado 6/2021

This long ago defunct bridge crosses the Rio Grande River. It served as a rail artery which carried millions of tons of raw materials from the mines up at Creede, Colorado. There are still many relics in the area from those days so long ago.

An unassuming bridge on an unassuming road over an unassuming lake at flood stage water levels. November, 2007 Belton Lake was at flood stage and the water was nearly touching the bridge girders. I am always looking to see everything from unique angles; this normally munDane bridge was no exception. I crawled under the bridge just to see was it looked like. Indeed the view was not munDane and seemed a bit claustrophobic. Imagine being trapped and the water rising.

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is one of the many spectacular sites in Northern New Mexico. It is located 10 miles west of Taos on highway US 64. The bridge spans the Rio Grande River and is 650 feet above the water level making it the 6th highest bridge in the US.

My favorite city in Canada, Toronto. The home city of MLB 92-93 champion Blue Jays; NBA 2019 champion Raptors; NHL champions x13 Maple Leaves. Toronto is truly a contender for the brand “Title Town”. It is also the home of Rush, one of the premier rock bands of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

Pictured here is the world famous CN Tower. Toronto is a very diverse city with a rich cultural history. Great hotels, tasty cuisine, museums and unmatched entertainment venues such as the historic Ed Mirvish Theatre, once named the Pantages Theatre. Most modern cities tend to have its, lets say dirty or littered side. However, Toronto is an extremely well kempt and beautiful city.

Bonham Bridge, Texas on State 78 going to Oklahoma. Another usually munDane river crossing. However, it is reimagined by simply using a 10mm fisheye lens.
